Pratima Sheth is compiling a "Dictionary of Indian Art & Artists of 20th Century" covering nearly 650 Indian Artists of contemporary times. From Ajanta to Halatol to Yoni, with over 2000 entries on painting, drawing, prints and sulpture, including more than 300 colour illustrations, Dictionary of Indian Art & Artist Presents a comprehensive Picture of the world of art in India. This is the first book to focus exclusively on the evolution and context of Indian art, it provides the road map for the artist, student, art professional and art lover to discover or advance knowledge on artists, movements, monuments and institutions that represents the creative force of Indian art. Utilizing extensive cross referencing , links are made between artists, concepts, techniques and period. Over 500 entries trace the emergence over the last century of Indian contemporary art, in which references to western art terminology are discussed in the Indian context. An extensive bibliography provides suggestions for further reading.

Pratima Sheth is a graduate of Sir. J.J. School of art, Mumbai. She has done indenpendent studies in art in many European and Indian cities. She is an artist with a long track record of proficiency in the field of oil painting and she has held Fifteen solo shows from 1981 to 2000 in various art galleries at Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Stuttgart (Germany), Wetzlar (Germany) and three restrospective at Birla Academy, Kolkata(2000), Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai(2000) & AIFACS Gallery, New Delhi(2002). She has participated in many prestigious group shows, competitions and awarded a Medal of Honour by the Mayor of Wetzlar, Germany, for her contribution to the development of fine arts.Her Paintings are in collection in India (Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata,), Switzerland, Germany, France, Washington D.C.
